In the beginning....

In 2001 the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central and the ROMAC program was looking for a sponsor to help a little girl from East Timor come to Australia for life saving surgery. Maria had a congenital heart condition and only a short life expectancy. International House, a Burwood provider of

accommodation for overseas students offered to fund the operation and costs of Maria coming to Australia. The operation at the Royal Children’s Hospital was a complete success and just 3 days after the operation Maria was lively and laughing. We have been back to see her several times and she is healthy and happy.

In 2004 we sponsored the first Interplast trip to Bangladesh. In one of the wards of Dhaka Medical College Hospital was a lad with an untreated cleft lip.He was in hospital for another reason and the doctors explained his family was unable to afford the

operation to correct the condition. From this chance encounter came operation Cleft.Over 9000 free clefts operations have been undertaken by Bangladesh surgeons. This website highlights our current programs and past challenges.
