Teaching Computer skills.

Location: Thanh Ba and Thanh Son, Phu Tho Province, Vietnam.

The aim of this project is to teach basic computer skills to students from financially disadvantaged rural areas and to encourage the brightest students to undertake higher education.

A total of 80 new computers plus scanners and
printers have been supplied to these schools:

Thanh Ba Gifted School

Thanh Ba Primary School

Chi Tien Secondary School

Chi Tien Primary School

Thanh Ba High School

Tat Thang Secondary School

Cu Dong Secondary School

One full time teacher/coordinator, Mr Viet Phuong is employed by the Foundation. Funding has been made available for Education department teachers to learn computer teaching techniques.

As at January 2008 over 1400 students are learning computer skills training.

Mr Phuong estimates that since 2002 over 3500 children have benefited from the programme.

A library of computer training books has now been established at each school.

The students learn two to each computer. The two schools in Thanh Son District (Tat Thang and Cu Dong) are situated in one of the poorest areas of Vietnam. Electricity has only just become available.
